OK, so I'm leaving for Chile tomorrow and I thought I should set up some sort of way for people to keep track of me if they so desire. I'll use this thing to update about my whereabouts and post pictures of everything.
So far this has been an interesting journey. As you all may or may not know, it all started a year ago when I was beginning Grad school at the University of British Columbia. Needless to say, for various reason, it didn't work out and I left the school in December. When I left I made the decision to become an English as a Second Language teacher with the hopes of being able to travel and work abroad. I enrolled in a program through Western Washington University and began learning how to teach.
Now I am going to Chile for my practicum, the last piece of the puzzle. Not wanting to do things the easy way, things have been falling together last minute over the course of the last month. Most practicums are set up months in advance... I didn't even get to start talking to the program until September 7th. So I have had to put everything together in the last few weeks. To add to that, I will be their first foreign practicum student. The WWU TESOL program wants to start a practicum there, and I'm going to be the experiment. It has been hectic but should pay off and I'm really excited.
I will be living in Valdivia, Chile for the next two months for this practicum. I'll be working at the Universidad Austral de Chile. I don't know much about what classes I'll be working in, but I do know that they want me in an English for Accounting class. So it should be interesting.
When I get back to the States in December I will start applying for jobs in South Korea and I hope to be there by February. But, in the meantime, I will be posting updates on this blog from Valdivia.
